Knight Cancer Institute employees celebrated summer. Employees and their families gathered in Westmoreland Park for the institute’s employee appreciation picnic on July 15. Congratulations to the community hematology-oncology (CHO) softball team for their victory. See more photos from the event on OHSU Now.
Help budding cancer scientists this summer. The Ted R. Lilley CURE Program and the Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology Internship at the Knight Cancer Institute give hands-on research experience to high school and undergraduate students. The students need volunteer judges to evaluate their research poster presentations on Aug. 11. The expected time commitment is two hours. To learn more or get involved, email Melanie Bennett for the CURE program and Alexis Champagne for the CDCB program.
The CPP is helping communities across Oregon contend with cancer. The Knight Cancer Institute’s Community Partnership Program is accepting funding applications for projects that address community-identified cancer needs. OHSU members are not eligible to apply but are encouraged to share this opportunity with community organizations in Oregon. Intent to apply forms are due Aug. 11, and proposals are due Sept. 8.
Congratulations to all newly promoted, tenured and appointed faculty. The OHSU School of Medicine recognized 156 faculty members who have been promoted, tenured and appointed this year, marking the highest number of faculty going through the promotion and tenure process in a single year.
OHSU employees craft for a cause. Debra Harris, RN, breast cancer nurse navigator, Jade Osilla, program manager, Suicide Prevention, and Cathleen Pace, office assistant, are part of OHSU’s Hook and Needle group that makes knitted and crocheted blankets, hats and other items for babies, new parents and people in care homes.
